Egernia depressa is a medium sized skink with some unic features. This is a social reptile that lives in communties and give birth to 1-3 live babies every year. The apperiance of this reptile is truely something else. The first time I saw it irl was at a Hamm show years ago and my heart started pumping. I just had to buy them........Since then I have been searching the globe for depressa breeders and now I got a decent collection of CB animals.

There are at least two color variations present, the gray/sothern form and the northen/red form but the color seams to be depending on what type of tree or stone they live on and not what latitude. Below is a pic of the grey form.

The red/northen form seams to be highly variable in colors from deep brick red to orange;

In the wild I have only had the oppertunity to breifly study the northen form in the central Pilbara. One thing that became obvious was that depressas are a heat loving spices. I mesured temps on the baskingrocks in the habitat to over 70C! Pic one below is a view of a habitat for red depressas and pic two is the home of a depressa family.

Depressas are very rare in the hobby, at least outside Australia and will never become a common reptile in captivity. Never the less they are a forgiving pet when it comes to captive management. Most important is heat and hiding places that simulte paled rocks or dead mulga trees. They do not seam to be dependent on UV-radiation but likes strong lights. Hibernation during the winter seams to be the trigger for breeding activities. Below is a pic of my depressaroom, this is where I keep breeders.

Here´s a pic of the first depressa baby 2011, an exact copy of the parents redy to rock n roll from day 1
